Bredin Delap's Royal Naval dress uniform tells the remarkable story of his time in service. Bredin Delap joined the Royal Navy in 1913, embarking on a distinguished career that spanned World War I. During the pivotal Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of its kind, HMS Onslaught took center stage. After launching four torpedoes, the ship's bridge came under intense fire, claiming the lives of several key personnel, including the Commanding Officer, 1st Lieutenant, and Gunner. Undaunted, Bredin Delap, then a Sub-Lieutenant, seized command and skillfully navigated the vessel back to safe harbor. His bravery earned him recognition within the Navy. Following his honorable discharge in 1923, Bredin Delap pursued a new career as a seasoned Captain on ships laying transatlantic cables, leveraging his expertise to successfully oversee critical operations.
