Royal George and Sans Pareil

The Royal George and Sans Pareil steam engines were designed by Timothy Hackworth of Shildon, specifically for the Stockton and Darlington Railway and the Rainhill Trials. The Royal George made its debut in 1827, quickly establishing itself as one of the most reliable steam locomotives on the S&D Railway. In contrast, the Sans Pareil was built two years later in 1829 to participate in the highly competitive Rainhill Trials between Liverpool and Manchester.
