cgtrader
Königsberg Royal Gate. Kaliningrad. Crafted from vintage pre-war photographs. Gumbinner Tor, built in 1765 on the outskirts of Neue County, was renamed the Royal Gate in 1811 and served as the terminus of Konigstrasse Boulevard. In 1850, Friedrich August Stühler redesigned the gate. On its western facade, three sandstone statues created by sculptor Wilhelm Stürmer stand tall: nine meters above ground on the left is Czech King Ottokar II, who inspired Koenigsberg's name. Frederick I of Prussia, the first king of Prussia, stands proudly in the middle, while Albert, First Duke of Prussia and founder of the Albertina University, follows closely behind. Above the sculptures, the coat of arms of Zamland and Natangen are prominently displayed.
