Royal Game of Ur
thingiverse
The Royal Game of Ur, modeled after the ancient board game on display at the British Museum. Other versions of this exist on Thingiverse, but I wanted to recreate the colorful inlays found in the original board. The main board consists of two pieces joined with a dovetail joint and features 3mm holes for accepting the inlaid pieces. Tolerances were tested using a Monoprice Maker Select V2, but should prove forgiving nonetheless. Pieces may be snug enough to press fit, but I used glue to ensure a more durable bond. The smallest pieces can be a tight squeeze, so I employed a spare token to lever them into place. For the dice, I simply printed them in white and colored two points with a sharpie. To create a fully functional game, you will need to print: 1x Board Left 1x Board Right 4x Dice 7x Tokens (White) 7x Tokens (Black) 35x Inlay Circle Large (White) 35x Inlay Circle Large (Black) 35x Inlay Circle Large (Black) 5x Inlay Circle Medium (Red) 20x Inlay Petal (Red) 20x Inlay Petal (Blue) 45x Inlay Circle Large (Blue) 12x Inlay Circle Medium (Blue) 50x Inlay Circle Small (Blue) You can print all the pieces of one color together as a raft. My final model consisted of six prints, and I highly recommend printing a few extra inlays to avoid losing any during assembly.
