In 1949, a commemorative gavel was unveiled to celebrate a milestone - the 350th anniversary of the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Adorned with intricate carvings, this ceremonial symbol features elements from the College's coat of arms, including the opium poppy, an open lancet, the Lion Rampant, the Glasgow coat of arms, a lamp, an open book, a serpent, and the College motto. The gavel's handle comes to a point with a thistle decoration at its tip.
