The U.K. designed B.E. 2s were in service with the Royal Flying Corps (U.K.) from 1912 on. The B.E. 2c operated in France, primarily for reconnaissance and observation purposes. Additionally, some of these planes were used as single-seat bombers. Night fighters based on the B.E. 2c downed six airships over Britain. A B.E. 2c is housed at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. It was sent to Canada after World War I as a war trophy in 1919. The plane underwent restoration work in the late 1950s and became part of the museum's collection in 1964.
