Roughting Linn (April 2009)
sketchfab
Area of extensive carved outcrop near Ford, Northumberland. Roughting Linn is a large dome-shaped quarried outcrop measuring 21m x 15m x 3.5m. Prominent archaeologist Canon William Greenwell first noted it in the mid-19th century and now it's one of England's most visited rock art sites. Motifs include various cups, rings, penannular and groove designs scattered across its surface. The rock has been recorded by Stan Beckensall, who made rubbings of the motifs. ERA and Beckensall Archive info can be found at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=12. Historic England scheduling is available at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1006600. This model shows the S end of the outcrop, but it's not accurate enough to pick out all motifs. It was created from 117 photos captured during a test of SfM for Historic England in April 2009.
