Rough Wood-effect Chest

Rough Wood-effect Chest

There's always room on MMF for another 3D printed box. This experiment aimed to achieve a "real" wood effect using ColorFabb Woodfill filament, which is great stuff but didn't deliver the desired "real" wood surface finish. I designed and modeled this simple little chest, investing a lot of time in creating the wood grain texture on all surfaces and faux Dovetail joints. To complete it, I added some hinges and a latch. Printed with ColorFabb Woodfill http://colorfabb.com/woodfill-fine and Faberdashery Robot Siver PLA http://www.faberdashery.co.uk/products-page/print-materials/robot-silver/. The file sizes are quite large due to the wood texture surface effect, which required a high model poly-count to achieve detail. I might try optimizing them later. I printed all parts of the chest with a 0.8mm nozzle at 0.4mm layer height and the hinges and latch with a 0.25 nozzle at 0.1mm layer height. The ChestLid file prints on its end, so I added a "10 walled Brim" to provide support while printing. All other parts printed without support or raft.
