Rotton Eggs!

Rotton Eggs!

This is my design submission for the 2018 Easter design contest on TinkerCAD/MMF. My primary objectives were to print without supports, develop an eggshell that securely locks together, and create a cute design. I dedicated most of my time to designing an eggshell that would print without supports and latch firmly in place. I experimented with hinges and threads, but these solutions presented too many complications. My kids consistently cross-threaded or broke my prototypes, so I knew this approach wasn't viable. Ultimately, I settled on nubs that wedge into place when the two halves are twisted together. The exterior of the shell features an egg-like shape, while the interior utilizes a more pointed "ogive" hole design to create the cavity. This shape tapers to a point, allowing adherence to the 45-degree rule and avoiding overhangs or sagging deposits. The characters within the shells are crafted using primarily spheres, various banana shapes, and Christmas trees for facial hair. To achieve damaged areas, I employed spheres, asteroids, and terrain shapes as "holes". For fun, I printed several in white so my kids can paint them. I hope you enjoy printing these objects! This design was created using Tinkercad at tinkercad.com/things/3rQK6ilflAc.
