This is a fully accurate three-dimensional model of a Rotrex C38R Centrifugal Supercharger. Designed specifically for projects in the 450-1000hp range, this unit is perfect for printing and mocking up install space and orientation for your next custom supercharger build. The model is hollow since the internals are not required for mock-up. This Model is the C38R version, which is the largest that Rotrex makes. It uses the same gear body as the regular C38-81 (the impeller housing is slightly smaller, included to allow you to mock up a regular C38-81 unit, and the pulley body is also different on the C38-81). I initially planned to use a Vortech or similar centrifugal geared supercharger for one of my builds. However, the Vortech is a massive unit. The Rotrex is a smaller unit for the same if not more horsepower capability due to the fact that it is not speed limited by angular velocity issues like high-speed gear drive centrifugal superchargers. The Rotrex uses a friction fit style planetary "ratio box" with no gears, providing an RPM multiplication ratio effect to drive the impeller up to 90,000rpm's. Something not possible in gear drive chargers that tend to top out at around 50-60K RPM. The higher speed allows the unit to have a smaller body diameter for the same CFM output, which lets me fit it where I wanted it on my project. Smaller Rotrex superchargers can reach speeds of 200,000 impeller RPM. In the photos, you can see the C38R beside the Vortech V-3/V-2/V-1 SI supercharger to see the substantial size difference. This will be of great help to any fab or prototyping project. One thing to note is that the Rotrex is very sensitive to proper installation. It's always advised to understand completely the input/output RPM limitations, oil feed requirements, and system design requirements when using specialized superchargers like the Rotrex. Higher rpm's require much more critical system attributes. The Rotrex has a design handbook that is highly recommended for custom applications.
