Planetary Gear Orb - This is my entry into the Sinterit design competition in the Mechanical/Math Art category, and I wish all participants good luck. As part of a physics class assignment, students were asked to write an engaging story related to Einstein's theory of relativity. In my story, I described a magical orb that could alter time, warp space, and manipulate matter at will. Any person holding the orb remained unaffected by its mystical powers. This orb consists of eight moving parts: six planetary gears and two main hemispheres (top and bottom). The six gears rotate around the sun gear, which is fixed to the bottom hemisphere. They are held in place by an external ring gear connected to the top hemisphere. I have given the gears a slight tolerance to allow smooth movement. Additionally, tiny connections link the planetary gears, making it easy to break them once the two main hemispheres are rotated in opposite directions. The model is fully assembled and designed for SLS printing. Dimensions are 90mm x 90mm x 90mm. I also created an animated script to demonstrate how it functions.
