I recently dove back into military and armored vehicle modeling, and the need for a turntable has grown exponentially. Constructing or painting a model requires a stable base, and the ability to effortlessly rotate the tabletop with one finger. To satisfy these requirements, I devised a simple and modular design using five 3D printed parts. A standard lazy-susan type ball bearing can be found at most hardware stores and big box retailers; however, it is imperative to utilize the 'turntablelazysusancoupler.stl' part designed specifically for a 3" ball bearing. If this size isn't available, scaling the design should accommodate smaller bearings seamlessly. To create a complete table, the following prints are required: Four turntabletopquartersection.stl Two turntablelazysusancoupler.stl One turntabletoppedestal.stl One turntablebottompedestal.stl Four turntablebottomleg.stl Assembly is straightforward; glue tabs together on 'turntabletopquartersection.stl' and secure them firmly with ABS compatible glue or an alternative adhesive suitable for PLA. Two turntablelazysusancoupler.stl parts hold the lazy-susan ball bearing hardware in place, creating a clamshell-like mechanism. I utilized silicone caulk to attach the hardware without risking permanent damage; two-part 5 minute epoxy provides a lasting bond. The turntablebottomleg.stl pieces securely fasten to the turntablebottompedestal.stl with glue and small metal screws that can be threaded through existing holes in the legs for additional stability. Precise holes are strategically located in the tabletop to accommodate bamboo skewers or toothpicks as makeshift model stands during painting or construction, ensuring maximum visibility and precision. This setup effectively meets the needs of even the most precise enthusiasts. I designed this innovative turntable to facilitate easy rotation of models while they're being worked on; it has served me exceptionally well thus far.
