Rotating bolt fastener concept
grabcad
Concept for a type of fastener where two locking components (red and yellow - each a 120 degree arc section of a cylinder with cross-sectional ridges on its circumference) are sequentially inserted into a hollow cylindrical receiver (green) with matched, intermeshing internal cross-sectional ridges along 240 degrees of its internal diameter, through a 120 gap in the internal ribbing of the receiver. After insertion, each of the locking parts is then rotated 120 degrees into position, so that intermeshes with 120 degrees of the internal ribbing of the receiver and releases the 120 degree arc section of the receiver where parts can be slid inside of it.Once both locking parts are in position, a 3rd component, the retainer (blue), is inserted in the 120 degree arc section of the receiver which has no cross-sectional interal ridges. That's the only arc section of the receiver where the retainer can be inserted into so it needs to go in last. Its purpose is to prevent either of the two locking components from being able to rotate out of the 240 degree section of the receiver from which they cannot slide out from. Finally, a retaining pin (metallic white) passes through the two locking parts as well as the retaining part for the purpose of preventing the retainer from accidentally sliding out as, without it, the locking parts would be free to rotate out of locking position and potentially slide out themselves as well. The retaining pin has a hole bored through it at one end for a wire retaining clip to prevent it from accidentally sliding out itself as well.
