To remedy this, I designed a more durable replacement in Sketchup. By purchasing a USD 9.99 item from TOM ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10043 ), I saved an additional nine dollars and justified the purchase. To install the new control tab, print the STL file and glue the top part to the original tab using acetone or other ABS adhesive. It may require some force, but aligning it vertically should allow for a proper fit, even if one of the side tabs breaks during installation.
