Attach a heatsink and fan to the rear of your NEMA17 extruder motor with absolute precision. Apply thermal compound, specifically Artic Silver 5, to optimize heat transfer. Harness any 12-volt power source within your system, tapping into the extruder fan for seamless integration when your extruder reaches peak temperatures. My experience with E3D reveals that an uncooled extruder motor often soars above 50 degrees Celsius, rendering it inadequate for PLA printing, causing frequent jamming incidents. After incorporating this thermal cooling mod, along with Mchackney's nozzle bore modification, I've successfully eliminated such problems while achieving smooth, precise prints using my E3D with PLA filaments. The small slot located on the device's side is perfectly designed to accommodate an M3 screw for added security as well as to ensure clearance for the motor wires.
