Here's how I do rope splicing. First, I wrap a length of twine around the standing part of the rope to keep it from running off while I'm working on it. Then I pass the end of the rope over the top of the standing part and through the loop that was just made in the standing part by wrapping the twine around it. Next, I pull the end of the rope all the way through the loop, so it's now hanging down from the bottom of the standing part. Now I pass the end of the rope back up over the top of the standing part and then through another loop that was just made in the standing part by wrapping the twine around it again.
