Root3 Y-Motion Link Double Bearing Pillow Block

This is a replacement for the bearing pillow blocks, or cups, for the Root3CNC. It houses two standard 608 bearings instead of one. The intent is to reduce the load on the individual bearing by applying that load across two bearings. I have been regularly using my Root3CNC for a while now...(I think it has been two years.) I have had virtually no problems except that one of the bearings for the Y-Motion Link have failed three times. This time, I made some pillow blocks that will hold two bearings each. I have printed, installed, and tested these... but it will be 6 months to a year before I know if they fixed my problem. I feel good about them though. The Y-Motion Link is the bar that runs through one of the square tubes and connects the right and left sides of the Y axis to keep them in sync. The plans called for an eight mm rod, but being in the US I went with a 5/16 drill rod that I ordered from Fastenal. 5/16 being 7.9375 mm, the drill rod slides easily into the 8 mm hole in the bearings. I expect that if you are using an actual 8 mm rod, you may have to fidget a bit to get it through both bearings. The new block is obviously thicker, but it does not interfere with the belt path, in fact for me it lines up better. There is also a small 20 mm circular piece to help press the first bearing into the block. You may print just one, or two of the pillow blocks depending on your current situation. Everything lines up the same so you can easily use one old and one new, or print two and replace them both. Whatever floats your boat. enjoy!
