Roomy Sonoff Basic Enclosure

Roomy Sonoff Basic Enclosure

I needed an enclosure for my Sonoff Basic with more room than others I've seen here. This design houses the board without its original case, making it ideal for routing a ground wire from a three-wire cable like an extension cord or power strip. The enclosure is tall enough to fit a switch into the lid without touching the board inside and has ample space at either end to deal with stubborn wires that need room to bend. I included two versions of both the box and the lid, allowing for customization. One box design features 9.5 mm diameter holes on each end that work well with most round cable power strips, while the other box design has 7.5 x 4.5 mm square holes at each end suitable for two-wire cables like those found on lighter-duty extension cords and appliances. One lid is a solid lid, while the other features a 17 mm hole offset that aligns with a space in the box without interfering with the Sonoff board inside. You can mix and match box and lid designs since they fit universally. I used 1" construction screws to secure the lids, which are countersunk for a snug fit. However, if not secured properly, the lid may fall off. I also created wall brackets to mount it on a wall. Once wired up, I used small zip ties on the cable's sheathed portion inside the box to take strain off of the Sonoff terminal connections. The design files are included in .obj and Fusion360 formats.
