Roomba Furniture Bumper

Roomba Furniture Bumper

The iRobot Roomba is fantastic because its compact design lets it slip under many pieces of furniture to get a complete clean. Unfortunately, I've got an LED light strip underneath my media center (an IKEA Besta set), and the Roomba keeps finding its way under there to rip out my light strip. As a result, the bumper - essentially acting as a physical barrier that the Roomba can hit - protects my LED strip or anything else from getting damaged. I've added a back-and-forth accordion-style spring to extend the bumper surface, which helps absorb the impact. The bumper is attached with two strips of 3M adhesive tape (check out the pictures). Only time will tell if this setup keeps the bumper stuck to the furniture. I'll probably add a small cutout adhesive foam pad to the front of the bumper so it doesn't scratch or damage the robot.
