Roomba 980 Dust Bin Filter Door Replacement (v2)
thingiverse
I was very happy to find a replacement Roomba 980 filter door already on Thingiverse, but that door didn't work well for me for three reasons. 1. The clip was located too close to the door. The physical interference with the slot in the Roomba made it difficult to shut the door and engage the clip. 2. The clip was too wide, so I had a hard time pulling out the clip to open the door once I fully shut it. 3. I first printed the door with the top flat on the print bed, but the hinges broke when I tried to remove the object from the print bed. This is because the print slices ran horizontally through the hinges. I tried to orient the door on its side in the slicer, but the outermost edges of the door were not at 90° angles to the top surface of the door. (I don't know if this was in the original model, a bi-product of the original STL creation, or something that my slicer did while importing the STL.) Printing with the top of the door flat on the bed clearly uses less plastic -- but at the expense of fragile hinges (IMO). I'm not attempting to disparage GoodstuffLV's original design. Quite the opposite is true because I leveraged almost all of it. Some of the issues I encountered may simply be due to printer variations. My remix *heavily* leveraged the measurements from GoodstuffLV's design. I recaptured that design in Fusion360 and then made modifications to address my three issues listed above. I also thickened the hinge arcs with ridges. _*IMPORTANT NOTE*_: There are several non-interchangeable Roomba doors that look like this one. There are even 900-series doors that are not interchangeable. As far as I know, this door works with Roomba 980/985, and does not work with the 960 series or 800 series. If you don't have a 980, then please do your own compatibility homework before printing this replacement part. If you have first-hand compatibility experience with these doors, please feel free to share it in the comments to help others. _EDIT Sep 24, 2022_: I didn't originally include the tiny "catches" on the hinges, but I saw their value after flipping the door completely out of the bin, dropping it on the floor, and breaking off one of the hinge arc ... so this version implements the tiny catches. The door will only open to about 90° and then stop on the catches. This makes the door a little trickier to insert into the bin the first time. (Note that GoodstuffLV's version also has these tiny catches.)
