Rook 180 Turned - Extended 235 (60mm) & 225 (50mm)
prusaprinters
Mod/extension for the Rook 180 by Rolohaun, based on the idea of Kanrog, who had the brilliant idea to extend the size of the Rook180 (Rook-235 & 225 Mod), now you can also extend the Rook 180 TURNED (mod by WoodKnight). The Rook 180 Turned mod ‘changes the orientation of the tabs that are used to bolt the frame together so that they require less support to print’.See image, orange parts are the extended parts. Some parts you need 3x (see file note). Also included bigger bed plate.Less support and better orientation from the turned mod sounded like music in my ears, but I also wanted to extend the size of the Rook 180 a bit. So inspired by Kanrog and his Rook-235 & 225 Mod I extended the frame braces and bed plates in the same way. One version extended by 60mm (the 235 version) and one version extended by 50mm (the 225 version). Choose which one you want based on bed size and linear rod availability (350mm rods are a more standard size but 360 can easily be custom ordered to size).(Extra small change from Turned mod: also rotated the top-back-brace/ext, so the nuts would be positioned on the inside like everything else). Please note: this mod works together with Rook 180 - Turned (time of writing 11-02-2023) and needs the rest of the (original) Rook 180 parts by Rolohaun to finish. For the 235 version (60mm extended) you will need 4x 360mm (8mm) linear rods. For the 225 version (50mm extended) you will need 4x 350mm (8mm) linear rods. You can also increase the Z size by using 4x 400-450mm (12mm) linear rods.Note: you can still use a 235 sized bed with the 225 version, just might not be able to utilize the whole print area.UPDATES:18-03-2023 - I have added some of my modifications in a seperate ‘235 additional modifications & addons’ folder. Read the description of those in there what they are. In this case those are for the 235 mod since I've gone for that one and for example use the screws of the 235 extension pieces. Some are useable on the 225 as well. Orientation how they come out of the CAD, change to your liking in the slicer.21-03-2023 - Finalized my heatbed mounting on the arms, so added those as well. For the 235 variant. This is for a 235x235 heatbed with mounting holes 170mm (center to center) apart. Also added some support blocks (print those out of ABS/ASA if you go higher temps), those fit into the recesses. Otherwise you can also use those silicone leveling columns which also works great. This all works quite well on my Rook.29-03-2023 - Added heatbed mounting arms for the 225 size as well. Kept the center of the bed at the center of the bedplates, so should be allright to fit the heatbed on the 225 size as well. Current status: Printer is now finished and works very well! After input shaping 10.000 acceleration, 7500 decel and 150mm/s (flow limited by hotend at ~15 mm3/s).
