Ronald Wilson Reagan (1911-2004) was the 40th President of the United States, serving from 1981 to 1989. Previously an actor and television host, he turned to politics and became governor of California. Reagan was famous for his policies of cutting taxes, increasing defense spending, and confronting the Soviet Union. He also promoted free market principles in economic policy, known as "Reaganomics." He successfully promoted the recovery of the American economy and played a key role in the Cold War.
