Romulan D-7 "Stormbird" Battlecruiser
sketchfab
The legendary D-7 Battlecruiser takes flight once more, this time donning the striking colors of Romulus. Enthusiasts and FASA gamers alike have dubbed it the "V-11 Stormbird", although its coloring bears a closer resemblance to the battleship gray depicted in cinematic masterpieces. The proud Bird of Prey proudly perches on its main hull, a testament to its imposing presence. However, I took some creative liberties to ensure the design fits seamlessly onto the hull, unlike the re-mastered series' poorly executed CGI, which awkwardly placed the bird's head on the boom section, obscuring an important component in the process. Some greebles have been borrowed directly from the iconic AMT plastic model kit, and a generous helping of "chrome" has been added for good measure. The Romulan emblem atop the hull is a nod to its appearance in interior shots of the battlecruiser during TOS's "The Enterprise Incident". The reason behind the Romulans' use of Klingon D-7s lies in a short-lived, non-canonical alliance and technology exchange. However, the real explanation for this substitution is far more intriguing - the original Bird of Prey studio model mysteriously vanished, leaving the FX crew with no choice but to substitute the D-7 out of necessity.
