Romero Britto's "Big Temptation"

Sitting somewhere on my university's campus lies one of Romero Britto's "Big Temptation" sculptures. Recent inspiration drove me to model a 3D version of this sculpture from a single 2D image. This doesn't exactly make it a 3D scan since it was traced in a vector format from a single jpeg image using Photoshop and Inkscape. Nonetheless, it makes a great addition to anyone's desk, bookcase, shelf, or mantlepiece. The raw false-color vector image, as generated by Inkscape, is available as well. The process involved for making this replica is also mentioned in the Instructions tab. Instructions How it was done: The process began by first taking a mediocre picture of the sculpture. Next I'd bring the image to Photoshop to remove the background, fix any blemishes, and run some filters in order to compress the sculpture to it's seven or eight primary colors. From there I'd take the resulting .bmp file to Inkscape and run the "Trace Bitmap" tool. A little bit of fiddling with Inkscape later and out would come seven or eight individual SVGs representing each color. Finally I'd import each "layer" to Tinkercad and stack the pieces in such a way to give the object depth and texture. Category: Scans & Replicas
