Romero Britto's "Big Temptation"
thingiverse
A sculpture by Romero Britto, part of my university's campus decor, inspired me to create a 3D model from a single 2D image. Using Photoshop and Inkscape, I traced the vector format image in a single jpeg file. The result is an eye-catching piece perfect for any desk, bookcase, shelf or mantelpiece. Additionally, the raw false-color vector image generated by Inkscape is available, as well as instructions on the process I followed to create this replica. The journey began with a subpar photo of the sculpture, which was then edited in Photoshop to remove background and blemishes, and apply filters for color compression. Next, I imported the image to Inkscape and used the "Trace Bitmap" tool to produce individual SVGs representing each color. Finally, I stacked these layers in Tinkercad to give the object depth and texture.
