Contemporary with the burning of the Romanesque cathedral of Notre-Dame de Laon (1112-1120), the foundation of the Prémontrés order by Saint Norbert de Xanten in the forest of Voas (1121), it was in the 12th century that the parish of Urcel received the necessary funds to build a church. It will therefore be of Romanesque style. This is a European artistic style used in Picardy from the 11th century onwards, which favors volumes without vaults, semi-circular openings and a profusion of sculptures and styles on the capitals, columns and porches. From the middle of the 12th century, Romanesque art was supplanted by the construction techniques and style of Gothic art throughout Picardy. The church of Urcel will be a link in this architectural transition.Dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, it will be classified in 1880 as a Historic Monument as an example of Romanesque church of transition. Print-in-place This is an accurate representation of the church, designed to be printed in FDM or SLA without supports. The stained glass windows are provided with the file. Some stained glass windows are not the originals due to lack of iconographic documentation. Several files are available: in one piece or in several, at different scales and with more or less important reliefs. The model can be printed in HO (1/87), N (1/160) or Z(1/220) Photo credits: ©CCPicardiedesChateaux Modeled in part using photos from the site: Coeur de Picard, accessible here
