The finest Roman cameo glass vessel, a stunning dark blue glass masterpiece adorned with delicate white figures, has been expertly crafted to perfection. Once part of the esteemed Barberini family's collection, this exquisite artifact was later acquired by the duchess of Portland in the 18th century. The vase has undergone extensive duplication, particularly during the Victorian era, but none have matched the accuracy of Josiah Wedgwood's replication in jasperware with white figures in high relief, created in 1790. Additionally, John Northwood of Stourbridge, England, successfully reproduced it in glass by 1876. However, a catastrophic accident befell the original vase in 1845 while it was housed at the British Museum, necessitating meticulous restoration to salvage its integrity.
