Roman stele and sarcophagus, Kalemegdan fortress
sketchfab
Roman stele and sarcophagi stand prominently in Antique lapidarium within Kalemegdan fortress walls. Situated adjacent to Zavod za zaštitu spomenika Beograda, this field is positioned at the same level as the iconic Pobednik (The Victor) statue. The exhibit consists of one Roman stele and four sarcophagi, two of which remain intact with no ornamentation, one featuring ornate details but a broken cover, and another displaying an epitaph along with a missing lid. Additionally, the lapidarium contains two lesser-known areas: a part situated to the left and another elevated section, both of which offer unique perspectives. More valuable Roman artifacts are stored within the Great Gunpowder Magazine located in lower Kalemegdan, whereas smaller relics are preserved at the National Museum.
