Roman sepulchral tombstone
sketchfab
Along the ancient Via Appia Claudia in Terracina, Italy, a Roman funeral tombstone stands out, dated between 1 and 50 AD. Placed in the midst of ruined tombs that once lined the road, it bears witness to a bygone era. The inscription on this tombstone is a testament to the lives of several individuals who lived during this time period. Caius Nautius C(ai) l(ibertus) Trupho was one of these individuals, as was Furia L(uci) l(iberta) Helena. Additionally, Lucius Furius ((mulieris)) l(ibertus) Demetrius and Furia ((mulieris)) l(iberta) Albana left their mark on history. Furthermore, the lives of Lucius Furius ((mulieris)) l(ibertus) Homuncio and Furia ((mulieris)) l(iberta) Acantis were also immortalized on this tombstone. Bibliography: CIL 10, 08269; G. Lugli, Anxur Tarracina (Forma Italiae. Regio I; 1), Roma 1926, col. 190 (2).
