In ancient mythology, Desire's mighty god is Cupid, a powerful deity who rules over erotic love, attraction, and affection. Often depicted as Venus' son and Mars' offspring, he takes center stage in many tales. Eros, his Greek counterpart, is typically portrayed as a slender winged youth in Classical Greek art, but during the Hellenistic era, he became increasingly shown as a chubby boy. His iconography grew to include the bow and arrow that symbolize his incredible power: anyone struck by Cupid's arrow becomes consumed by uncontrollable desire.
