The Clay Lamp (Lucerna) from Roman Villa of S. Cucufate, Located in Alentejo, Portugal, Dates Back to the High Roman Empire Period (2nd Century AD). This Type of Lamp, Fueled by Olive Oil and Other Vegetable Oils, Was Extremely Common Throughout the Roman World for Providing Artificial Lighting. The Specimen Features a Shoulder Decorated with an Undetermined Motif, Possibly Pearls or Ovules, Separated from the Disk by a Two-Line Frame. The Filling-Hole is Located at the Center of the Discus. Measuring 2.3 Cm in Height and 7 Cm in Length, This Lamp Currently Takes Center Stage in the Permanent Exhibition at the Museum of S. Cucufate (Vila de Frades, Vidigueira).
