Roman Dice

"For my vesture they did cast lots". The romans loved playing dice games and did so every possible time.Roman dice were mostly made of bone. Hundreds of original pieces have been found by archeologists. The pips were arranged the same way as they still are today, but were rather flat, drilled, concetrical circles, and rounded corners were invented much later. This model represents a typical Roman die. The size is 16mm, as modern gamers are used to. Most Roman dice were smaller, but as there were no norm and size varied a lot, I could just as well chosse this. Although the romans were especially known for their love of dice games, the same style can be found from ancient Egypt to the middle ages. So this model can as well be seen as a generic "ancient" die.
