Roman Columns for 28mm Gaming

prusaprinters

This is a set of Roman columns for use in 28mm gaming, such as Arena Rex. My contributions are to resize for 28mm gaming, to create the deformed versions, and to split the column into a hollow base and separate top. Original design is from Poirer32. Thanks! The "bottom" and "top" versions of the column together make a single column that should print with less support and less plastic. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2X Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm layers Infill: 17% Notes: The first set (two sets of fallen pieces) took approximately 9 hours to print at 0.1mm layers on my R2X. Two perimeters, 17% infill, automatic support from Simplify3D (not a lot). I used a wide brim to help ensure they would stay planted. Printed in Grey Prototype Supply (eSun) ABS. How I Designed This =================== Basically I took Poirer32's model, resized to that the base was approximately 35mm in X and Y, then pulled it into Blender and shortened the fluted section to get the height down to approximately 135mm, which is the size of the columns from the Arena Rex Kickstarter. Then I went to work deforming, using a heightmap from the urban buildings to make the cuts seen with booleans (again in Blender, much better than doing the same in OpenSCAD). Finally, I pulled the complete column into OpenSCAD and did some quick work with some cylinders to separate the top from the body of the column and hollow out the column.
