Roman Columns for 28mm Gaming
thingiverse
This set of Roman columns is designed for 28mm gaming, such as Arena Rex. My contributions include resizing for 28mm gaming, creating deformed versions, and splitting the column into a hollow base and separate top. The original design comes from Poirer32, and I'm grateful for their work. The "bottom" and "top" versions of the column together should print with less support and less plastic when combined. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2X Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm layers Infill: 17% Notes: The first set, including two sets of fallen pieces, took approximately 9 hours to print at 0.1mm layers on my R2X. Two perimeters and 17% infill were used with automatic support from Simplify3D. I employed a wide brim to ensure the columns stayed planted during printing in Grey Prototype Supply (eSun) ABS. How I Designed This: I took Poirer32's model and resized it so that the base was approximately 35mm in X and Y, then brought it into Blender. The fluted section was shortened to achieve a height of about 135mm, which matches the size of the columns from the Arena Rex Kickstarter. Next, I used a heightmap from urban buildings to create cuts with booleans (in Blender), which resulted in the distinctive features seen on the columns. Finally, I pulled the complete column into OpenSCAD and performed some quick work using cylinders to separate the top from the body of the column and hollow it out.
