This impressive capital is one of several remnants from the ancient Roman settlement Pax Iulia in modern-day Beja, Portugal. The capital is showcased at the Regional Museum of Beja. It consists of two overlapping marble blocks with maximum dimensions measuring 1 meter in height and 1.7 meters by 1.6 meters. The capital boasts striking plastic expression with intricate details throughout its design, successfully combining the ionic and Corinthian styles. Decorative elements include acanthus leaves, stems, rosettes, and helices. The capital likely originated from a significant structure, possibly the Triumphal Arch situated at the eastern end of the forum. Alternatively, it might have come from buildings such as Curia or the Capitol. This type of capital dates back to the late 1st century AD through the early 3rd century AD.
