Carranque is home to an ancient Roman villa, dating back to the 4th century, now protected as a vital archeological park by the Castile-La Mancha government. The prominent "Villa of Maternus Cinigius" stands out, built by the uncle of Theodosius I, the renowned Roman emperor born in Hispania. Located on the banks of the River Guadarrama and close to an ancient Roman road, it's also believed to be near the elusive lost city of Titultiam. The imposing basilica at Carranque is reminiscent of Governor’s palaces from that era. Its grandeur boasts 32 marble columns sourced directly from the emperor’s private quarries in Chios, Greece. Over time, this majestic building served various purposes, including early Christian cults, Visigothic use, Islamic period, and even as a Knights Templar stronghold. This intricate model was crafted using an impressive collection of 2150 images captured with a state-of-the-art DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone. These photographs were meticulously processed in RealityCapture, accompanied by additional mesh processing in Geomagic Wrap to bring the project to life.
