ROLLX Dice Tower

ROLLX Dice Tower

ROLLX Dice Tower and Faceplate. I finally get to design a windowed dice tower so I can see the die rolling action up close. My first attempt was a plinko style with many pegs, but they weren't spaced far enough apart and 12-20 sided dice got stuck in the chute. That design was scrapped and I went with this model, the ROLLX (named after the X shape created by the bumpers that direct two paths for the dice). The channels were made wide enough to ensure smooth movement. The Faceplate/Cover should be printed face down without any supports needed. A heated glass bed gave it a smooth finish on the front side. The Tower can be printed either on its back or vertically, with only supports required for the two diamond bumpers in the middle. If you use Cura, the experimental "tree" support will waste minimal material. The screw holes are designed for #4 x 1/2" wood screws. Depending on your machine's dimensional accuracy, you might need to drill out the holes a bit more or widen them before printing. The cover has a recess area at the back where a piece of thin clear plastic can be inserted. I used very thin craft plexiglass, but if I did it again, I'd use something a little more pliable as it didn't take drilling the holes well. On my previous design, I used thicker flexible clear plastic from a clothing package, and you can usually find this on the bolt at fabric stores or as table cover material. A wide mesh material would also work well. To keep the layers from separating when inserting the cover, I clamped it and the tower at each screw point. Not perfect, but good enough. If someone wanted to rework this slightly, I might remove the screw holes and add a slot at the bottom where the faceplate slides in and a couple of clips at the top to keep it in place. You could then attach your clear material on the reverse side with tape or glue to hold it in place, still allowing for removal if needed.
