Rolling log mouse trap for IKEA SAMLA bin, with printable ramps
thingiverse
Based on the "rolling log" mouse trap, we needed something for our RV that could withstand the occasional critter making its way inside, even with it sealed up from mice. A more reliable solution was in order since we don't get out there every week or two to check on it. The project is designed to clip onto the edge of a SAMLA bin, which I had just laying around and labeled in the photos. It's a low-profile setup compared to bucket systems, making it easier for mice to enter and fitting nicely into corner spaces. Typical 608 skateboard bearings are used along with a scrap piece of tube that I identified as PVC after googling the numbers on the photo. The OD of the adapter for this tube is 15.5mm and fits well inside, so you may need to create another adapter for whatever tube material you choose. However, our initial try was not very successful - either the bin was too short or the bearings didn't spin easily enough, resulting in a mix of mouse poop in the water but only one dead mouse. We'll have to experiment with different ideas.
