Rollerstruder: filament feeder / driver / extruder
thingiverse
This filament driver, paired with a hobbed bolt, has successfully operated on my Ultimaker for ten months, even with PLA material. Originally designed for 3mm filament, it can also work with 1.75mm due to the hobbed bolt's functionality. The current version is revision 5.3 and was created using OpenSCAD for a fully parametric design, including dimensions like height, average thickness, and bearing diameters. Printing time is around 2-3 hours, and it prints almost in one piece (with 2mm walls and 30% infill featuring internal support structures). The creator shares unique features on their blog, which you can find through the update. Recent updates include a fix for the main body height in file 5.3b to accommodate hinge screws and idler M8 screws. Additional files, called "simpleclamp_xxx," are available for those interested in using blind rivet nuts or push fits to hold bowden tubes. Owen's design inspired the tube clamp, which uses Aubenc's knurled surface finish and screw libraries. However, future revisions may simplify this feature. Check out the crappy video demonstrating 3mm wood filament and 2.4mm trimmer line for more information. Detailed instructions are available on the creator's blog.
