Rods Wrapper - home construction machine rods
thingiverse
When I finish a project, I like to challenge myself with a new DIY endeavor. This time, I decided to build a home-made fly tying machine. With this device, you can spin and shape the handle, wrap and dry the thread wraps. It's designed to work with standard drills or cordless screwdrivers with a 44-45 handle attachment. The cost of building this machine is roughly $15-$20 USD. I decided to make it using readily available parts in Poland, which can be found at Castorama. Here are the components needed: 6 pieces - bearings measuring 5x13x4 (inner diameter, outer diameter, width). These can be found online for about $0.25 each. 2 pieces - screws with a length of over 1 meter 4 pieces - M10 nuts with closed ends, or regular nuts will also work 16 pieces - M10 regular nuts 20 pieces - M10 nut bases 6 pieces - M5x25 screws 6 pieces - M5x30 or 35 screws with a flat head and no threads on the end, so you can attach the bearing 28 pieces - M5 nut bases 4 pieces - M6x45-60 screws (for attaching the drill handle) 6 pieces - rubber gaskets for a 40mm pipe :)) 1 piece - an M5 screw or rod to secure the thread wrap 2 pieces - M5 locknuts (to tighten the thread wrap) 2 pieces - springs for holding down the thread wrap. Unfortunately, I had to improvise with something else. 2 pieces - springs that I found in a Castorama store. Maybe you can replace them with a rubber gasket. 1 piece - a 12x12x2 mm angle iron (for supporting the spinning mechanism) 1 piece - a 40x20x2 mm angle iron (for attaching the stepper motor)
