The rodholder for TRAPPER CANOE is crafted using HDPE (high-density polyethylene), a #2 plastic commonly found in milk jugs, bags, and bottles. Besides being used in plastic lumber and recycled furniture, HDPE is employed to manufacture lawn and garden products, buckets, crates, office supplies, and automobile parts. HDPE's strength, moisture resistance, insect resistance, chemical resistance, recyclability, and non-toxicity make it ideal for packaging and manufacturing applications. To produce recycled plastic lumber, cleaned, shredded, and ground HDPE is melted and combined with UV stabilizers and pigments before being extruded into standard lumber shapes. Recycling reduces resource consumption and pollution; 80% of U.S. households have access to a plastics recycling program.
