Rockshox Lockout Remote System

These are the parts necessary to put together a remote lockout system for your front Rockshox suspension fork.

Compatibility not guaranteed.

How I Designed This

http://www.alshub.com/Blog/Entries/2011/5/20_Putting_it_All_together.html

& just general research.

Designed for my Rockshox Recon Silver, 100 mm, G2 geometry fork.

Assembly

You'll need:

shifter, an indexed one would probably be preferably. Right/left doesn't matter.

cable housing

shift cable

M5 bolt, just needs to be long enough

M5 nut: the inset is designed to fit one with 8.05 mm between parallel sides

an expansion spring: should be stiff enough to push your manual lockout switch to the open position (anti-clockwise). Mine is .70 mm thick, 35 mm long, 7.56 mm ID, 8.79 mm OD. There's a curved surface on the stop, etc. to permit a small range of springs.

Shimano cable anchor plate. These should be pretty common. Ask your LBS for a spare.

These 3D printed parts

fork steerer cable guide: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2301284

switch + cable anchor

cable stop

Mount your shifter, install your cable & housing length needed to reach the cable stop on the fork crown. Use the steerer cable guide to route the cable under the downtube & behind the fork crown.

Remove your existing lockout switch, but keep the coarsely threaded sheet metal screw that comes with it (mine is countersunk).

Slip the cable stop over. It will align in only 1 of 6 positions; I would choose the one closest to the back of the bicycle. Then slip the replacement switch + cable anchor piece on top. Secure the screw back on.

Run your cable through the spring, & add the Shimano anchor plate, then secure that with your M5 bolt & nut.

Shimano cable anchor plate
Category: DIY
