Field Geology Exercise - Rock Identification This exercise is designed to test your skills in identifying rocks and minerals found in nature. To complete this exercise, you will need a sample of each type of rock and mineral listed below. **Sample 1:** Igneous Rock Identify the rock as either intrusive or extrusive based on its texture and composition. Is it coarse-grained or fine-grained? Does it have any visible crystals? **Sample 2:** Sedimentary Rock Determine the origin of this sedimentary rock. Is it composed of: Chemical sediments (e.g., evaporites)? Mechanical sediments (e.g., sand, silt, clay)? **Sample 3:** Metamorphic Rock Analyze the texture and mineral composition of this metamorphic rock to determine its type. Is it foliated or non-foliated? Are there any visible minerals present? **Sample 4:** Mineral Sample Examine this mineral sample under magnification to identify its crystal structure and properties. Is it a silicate, oxide, or other mineral group? Does it exhibit any optical properties?
