Recently taught a class on 3D printing in industry to middle school students as part of a summer course on designing and 3D printing. Decided to design, print, and assemble a fun rocket with payload for an example mock-up assembly. Designed a planetary lander that could be called anything else by someone. Used knurled pressed inserts for plastics and matching machine screws. The inserts were 4-40 and 2-56 in size as those were the sizes already on hand. Different brands of PLA were used for various parts, with three legs needing to be printed separately from other components. This project represents a creation born out of a sleep-deprived mind during a late night of 3D modeling.
