Rock Tumbler Drum 4.5"
thingiverse
Modeled up a rock tumbler drum for replacing an old worn out rubber one. This has been through 2 sets of rocks with all 4 stages and it holds up pretty good. The drum and lid gasket are out of TPU, softer the better. High speed TPU makes a noticeably harder drum. I went with plain ole overture TPU, NON-High Speed. The Lid and Gasket Support are plain PLA.Print the drum and gasket with a 0.8mm nozzle. Slice it so that there is 2 inside walls 2 outside walls and 0% infill. Stet the bottom layers to around 10 to make sure you get a solid bottom and the top layers around 20-30 to make sure the top of the drum is ridged and sealed. This creates hollow air pockets that i thought would act as a bit of an air cushion as the rocks tumble. The drum is really the only one you need a 0.8 nozzle. All other parts should be sliced to be completely solid. this will help with the strength of the lid and gasket support. To assemble, put a 1/4-20 flat head screw through the lid support, then place the gasket over the lid support. (Gasket TPU side should be facing inward to the drum and the screw sticking out the top)Press the lid and gasket assembly into the drum, you may need to work it in with a flat edge as the drum is smaller than the gasket by design to keep a good seal. Then place the lid on the drum with the 1/4-20 screw sticking though the lid. Press the lid all the way on as far as it will go, tap it a bit to make sure it tight. The taper on the lid helps make the seal even tighter and secures the drum to the gasket. Then place a nut on the end of the screw to keep everything tight. Hand tight on the nut will be good enough, don’t overtighten it as it may crack the PLA parts.
