Southern Africa boasts an impressive array of remarkably preserved Rock Art, with the Cederberg region standing out as a treasure trove of thousands of well-preserved rock art sites. In 2015, the Zamani Project undertook a meticulous spatial documentation project at Rock Art Site CDE1 located near Clanwilliam Dam in the Cederberg, South Africa. Nearby, two other notable rock art sites, Rock Art Site CDE2 and Rock Art Site CDW10, also lie within this scenic area. However, disaster looms on the horizon as three significant rock art sites situated along the banks of Clanwilliam Dam are poised to be submerged underwater due to an imminent increase in the dam's water level. These priceless cultural artifacts hold immense historical significance, having been created by the San people a staggering 2000 years ago, offering a unique glimpse into their way of life during that era. Meanwhile, archaeologists are diligently recording the surrounding archaeological evidence, including ancient stone tools and other relics from early human occupation in the area. As part of this effort, excavations are currently underway at each of the rock art sites and their respective surroundings.
