Rock Art CDE 2, Cederberg Clanwilliam Dam

The Zamani Project meticulously mapped the Rock Art Site CDE 2 in 2015, located on Clanwilliam Dam's shores in South Africa's Cederberg region. Three Rock Art sites situated along the Clanwilliam dam in the Cederberg, South Africa, are soon to be submerged underwater as the height of the dam wall is being raised to enhance its full capacity level. These sites hold significant cultural value as paintings created by the San 2000 years ago vividly depict the way of life of people from those times. The Zamani Project was entrusted with the task of spatially documenting these sites before they are destroyed. Archaeologists are currently recording the surrounding archaeology, which includes stone tools and other evidence of early human habitation. Excavations are underway at each Rock Art site and surrounding areas.
