This is a very simple, in line, Robot Arm extenders that fit onto the RobotGeek's V.2 Robotic Arm for the 2017 division C Science Olympiad. It should be fully rules complaint but check dimensions before using this design. The BeefyArm will adds 20 cm of length to each segment of the robot it is attached to (40 cm as pictured). These parts require no modifications to the robot's frame and only requires 16 additional M2x10 bolts and nuts. Servo wiring extensions may be required. The Armlong is overly conservative and as such is extremely heavy for the minor loads it has to handle. With the BeefyArm the overall plan was to cut the fat and maximize the print length for my printer (a Rep1). Even though the BeefyArm is over twice the length of the ArmLong, 20 cm and 9.5 cm respectively, the overall increase in mass is minimal. For the increase in length the overall mass of the extender only changes by about 1.7 grams.Overall I think the BeefyArm is a good evolutionary step over the ArmLong. Note: At time of upload, the design has not been tested in competition and has no guarantee of performance. Also as Noted by RobotGeek:All extenders will add stress to the servos. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage that may occur. Use cautiously as this may burn out a servo(s) which may not be covered under the warranty. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 1 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2 Infill: 15% Notes: Printed with 2 shells. At above print setting, mass of a single extender was about 12.0 grams using Toy Builder Labs Green 1.75mm PLA If extra strength is needed start by adding shells. Category: Robotics
