RobotArm GearSmall.stl - Improved
thingiverse
I noticed that GearSmall.stl shouldn't be printed with PLA filament because gears attached to Steppers can become loose when they heat up. This happens when the gear's hole expands and it starts slipping on the stepper shaft, losing its grip. Print this file using ABS filament instead. I fixed this issue by remixing the GearSmall.stl file. I added two M3 nuts and two M3x6 Grub Screws (also known as Set Screws) to secure the gear in place. Additionally, I made the base of the gear slightly larger to make it stronger. UPDATE: I had set the ampere value too high on my DRV8825 stepper drivers, causing them to overheat. To fix this, I followed a video guide and adjusted the ampere setting to its optimal value (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89BHS9hfSUk&feature=youtu.be). Using a remixed gear with screws is definitely better than one without.
