Robot B9
thingiverse
This is a massive 3D-printable model of a remarkably familiar TV sci-fi robot originally designed by the ingenious Robert Kinoshita. The model showcased here is a labor of love carefully crafted from scratch based on multiple reference sources. It's likely somewhat dimensionally inaccurate overall, but it captures the essence perfectly in my opinion. Or at least, it looks that way to me. Let me clarify that this build is not suitable for beginners with 3D printing and probably not for those without a spacious print bed (although, you can scale it as you see fit). But who am I to dictate what you can or cannot do? Some of the parts will require high-resolution printing to turn out properly. Some components may need supports, while others won't. Unless it's a flat piece with shallow overhangs, assume support is needed for proper printing. It's up to your experience to determine which ones are necessary as you begin printing parts. Also, much of the assembly involves gluing parts together, so it will be similar to building an intricate model kit. I've included an exploded view with part numbers and a fully assembled model. I have printed and assembled this model (except for the dome and treads) and was satisfied with the outcome. It's approximately 18 inches high (see the attached picture). I've since fine-tuned some size/aesthetics (especially the 'girdle' and upper legs which were too large) to make it more accurate and visually appealing. Speaking of the dome... there's a solid version available, as printing a hollow, clear dome is quite challenging unless you have an SLA printer and ample patience. That said, I'd love to see your builds if you decide to bring this model to life. Also please note that this model is strictly for non-commercial use only.
